FO: Cable Knitted Dress

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Last week, I told myself that I will sleep before 11pm and wake up at 6am. It’s been hard but I think I am getting used to it. I feel great because I get majority of things done way before I usually do :)

I am so happy to show you that I have finally finished knitting for myself the women’s version of Ocean. This was one of my new year’s resolution and the pattern is now available from my shop.

I casted on last December, hoping to finish if before for the end-of-year-party I was attending.. but I could not finish it!. The New Year came and I was determined to complete knitting. The good thing is that because this garment is short-sleeved I knew I would be able to wear it well into spring.

This was taken the end of the year. I took this to knit when my flat was still being refurbished.

WIP...

There are few other patterns that I am working on (including adult version of Cable Yoke Jacket) but this one was something that I wanted to do first, mainly because I wanted to knit it for myself!

So cool to wear what you have made and walk around the town :D

I have modified the original girl’s version slightly to suit grown-ups by making the neckline shallow and giving it a high-neck instead of a crew-neck. When I was talking to Jamieson’s last year during the Knitting & Stitching show, they were saying how it would be nice to wear this with a nice pair of boots.

I do love high neck jumber. It always add a touch of retro-ness to the garment.

I haven’t yet managed to take a photo of myself wearing it but I will promise to do that soon.

Kumo found the biggest spider in our place and he was trying to eat it…
I managed to hold him before his mouth reached this poor (but really gory looking) spider.
The problem was that someone had to do something about him. Capture him? How? Kill him? I couldn’t do that.
W suggested hoovering, but I was worried that would either kill him or snap his legs off and he would die in agony. So basically the responsibility to somehow rescue and remove this huge long-legged hairy spider was on me.
For the next hour, I was screaming and jumping around every time the spider moved around. While Wesley was threatening to hoover him if I screamed one more time. But in the end, I managed to capture him in a container and he was successfully released out side. Phew!!!
It was a strange feeling to hate the spider but at the same time to feel happy that he was able to escape.
So, to celebrate, I would like to show you my 80% finished shawl. It is looking gorgeous, I think. This weekend I will block it.
Also, I just wanted to share this photo which I took for the purpose of my new site. Although I decided not to use it in the end, I still think it is super cute. They look like crabs.

Hope you are all having a good week. It’s been a mad crazy busy week for me. Sorry if I hadn’t visited you. I haven’t forgotten about it. I will do my best to pop around you and say hi soon.

Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Seamless Baby Sweater From Knitter’s Almanac

Friday, July 11th, 2008

I have been fortunate to have time to knit this week. Once I get the momentum I tend to want to finish it and here it is, the seamless baby sweater from EZ’s Knitter’s Almanac.
It was such a pleasure to knit and I am hooked on seamless sweaters. I think I will knit some more.Anyway, rules are there to be broken…. I decided not to knit the sleeve flat as indicated in the instruction. I knitted the sleeve with a circular needle using magic loop method and dpn needles for the cuffs.
This basically got rid of darning the sleeve seam. The only seam was the under arm part (shown in red arrow in photo below).
I hate sewing the knitted garment at the end because it just takes too much time. There are so many knitted things that I just left unfinished because I couldn’t be bothered to sew. So this was a true blessing for me. No sewing! I love it!
By knitting with the specified gauge (5sts/inch), the size came out to be perfect for a baby (may be around 3month… I think).
The only thing I would probably change is that I would use tubular cast on and off. Ribbing for all the edges would make the neck, bottom and cuffs to be much more elastic.
Busy weekend ahead of me…. Hope more craft times!
