Knitting Pictures: October – The Herdy Wool

The Herdy Wool is a brand-new British yarn. It’s chunky, it’s bouncy and I enjoyed knitting with it. They sell other super cute sheep related products on their site as well so do please check out their site. I am currently drooling over their sheep garlic container. I also want to knit with the bright blue yarn.

I think this yarn is ideal for cable knitting so I made 3 identical swatches of the same cable patterns.

On their website, they say “Perfect for knitting or crocheting accessories, home furnishings and outer wear, or knit first and wet felt in the washing machine to make bags or purses.” I agree. Chunky cable outerwear with this yarn would be really cool.

My friend Mary visited the actual shop. She said that it was so nice and there were lots of lovely things in the shop. I really want to go!!!

I love all the colours but the pea green is my favourite.

This lovely grey would be perfect for men’s wear…

    A great British brand, brilliant!

  2. I love the bright colours – is it soft enough for sweaters or scarves/cowls? I normally think of Herdy wool as tough and scratchy and more for carpets. I think the colours would make great baby blankets but not sure about the softness factor.

      Hello!
Yes, it’s soft enough for scarfs/cowls. It’s not as soft as merino but would make a lovely chunky stuff! If you have a very sensitive skin, then it might be itchy. I think the baby blanket that goes over the cotton sheet would be good. Hope this helps!

what is the cable called in the center of your swatch??

      Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for your message! Not sure about the name but it is worked over 8 sts over 4 rows (or however many rows you like but it will look less compact if more rows).
      row 1: C4B, C4F
row 2 and every other row: Purl
      rows 3: Knit
      Hope this helps!
