Wanna win a super duper wonderful knitting book? Read on….!
If you are looking for a great knitting book with projects ranging from home accessories, fashion and for babies all-in-one, Weekend Knitting (50 Unique Projects and Ideas) by Melanie Falick is the one for you!
Weekend Knitting (50 Unique Projects and Ideas) brings together unique, innovative, and still-fresh projects for beginning and more-experienced knitters, many of which can be completed in a weekend or less. I am impressed by talented Melanie Falick. I am rarely impressed by knitting books, but this one I just have to applaud. Here are the reasons why:
About the book
- The book is well laid out with clear fonts and colors (so you don’t need a magnifying glass to read it!).
- Every single page has colored photos or stitch diagrams.
- It is clearly categorized into three main sections 1) Home and Hearth, 2) Body and Soul and 3) Charm of Children. If you are big on baby knitting, just concentrate on chapter 3, rather than keep flicking to find the pattern.
- Every project has a little “note” which helps you with special knitting techniques.
- This is not an ordinary knitting book. There is a recipe which will make your knitting weekend really fun and yummy.
About the projects
- They are practical, usable and most of all, very cute and you just want to knit them.
- Most importantly, the projects are all 100% knittable and you can finish it over the weekend.
- All knitters from beginners to more advanced can enjoy them. The patterns all have a little interesting “twist” to their design. You will constantly be surprised.
- The projects are designed for all seasons (yes knitting is not just for winter!). You can use the book to make something all year around.
Introduce yourself to circular knitting to make a chenille flannel. It would be so soft on my face…
Who would not want to make these super cute slippers!!!? I want to make it for myself and my friends!
Another new technique worth investigating: Brioche knitting. This would be perfect for winter. There is a man’s version too!
For all sock knitters and starters! There is a basic pattern and this gorgeous lace sock pattern. There is also cute little pointed-toe booties for babies ;D
I feel like I just ate a whole pack of chocolate. To indulge more, do please see more great pictures from here.
Now, onto the draw to win this book.

Fun! I think the best thing I ever knit was my Road to Golden pullover. I love stranded knitting and v-neck modifications were a fun challenge.
Hi!
I’m a pretty new knitter so I haven’t been able to try too many patterns, but my first ever lace pattern was this scarf and I *adore* it! It was really simple to understand the pattern but the result was still beautiful. There were parts I didn’t know how to do but the project helped me learn which I always love. I probably didn’t hurt that I used my favorite yarn ever… ^ ^

As an amateur knitter, I just decided to go ahead and buy the book instead of trying to win it..SUCH a great recommendation! Thank you!! I can’t wait to give these new patterns a try..especially those cute argyle slippers!!
Well, I’m working on my first actual knitted project and the pattern is one the my friend gave me. I only have a link to my blog where I have a photo of it. (But you can’t really see the good basketweave like pattern.)

Thanks for offering a drawing for such a great book, Kyoko!
So sweet of you to hold a draw for this book! Those slippers are mighty tempting. Thanks so much Kyoko.
My favourite pattern that I have knitted so far has to be this:
http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Rainknits/bayerische-socks
It keeps me on my toes. The pattern is complicated enough to keep my interest and the pattern flows out so neatly – such gratification. I regret letting it languish for so long.
Eunny Jang’s brilliant construction shines through in every stitch. A real testament to the talent of knitting designers!
I actually knit one of the wonderful patterns in this book for my boyfriend. The Berkshire Pullover. It’s the best sweater to knit a boyfriend picks it knits up super fast. It only took me 6 days of knitting time to finish it and he wears it all the time.
I’ve been making a fair amount of socks lately, and so far the Express Lane Socks by Dianne Mulholland have been my favorites. I enjoyed the pattern, and it turned out great with the yarn I used.

This is fun!…I have this book already though…It is full of terrific patterns and ideas–love it! The petal baby bib pattern in there is fun to make.
) Happy Knitting, Kyoko…and Happy weekend! ((HUGS))
That looks like a great book!
My favourite pattern right now is for pedicure socks – this link takes you to a pdf file, so just be aware of that.

I’d be excited to win the book, but will follow your blog either way – great blog!

Veil of Isis from BadCat Designs, it is a wonderfully adaptable pattern, I have made a shawl version, a baby blanket version and am seriously considering trying it with a heavier yarn to make a throw.
I would have to say that my favourite pattern to knit up has been the Adamas Shawl.
Here is the site where you can find the pattern: http://mimknits.com/shop/index.php?main_page=document_product_info&products_id=199
And here is my blog post of the finished shawl: http://gambitsview.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-sister-her-shawl.html
I fell in love with the pattern because of what it represented to me. I will be knitting it again, this time for a dear friend.

I’m leaving my second favorite pattern because I don’t have a picture of my favorite. (Preemie hat for my nephew who was 1 lb 8 oz at birth. The hat was huge, but he grew into it!) So, my second favorite is from BadCatDesigns… Autumn in New York. The pattern was very fun and easy to follow. Andrea has a neat way to cast on and explains it very well. I’ve had many people ask if they could have the shawl or if I could make another one!

Hi Kyoko – thanks for letting me know about your comp – what a gorgeous knitting book!
It’s nice reading everyone’s pattern links too
Here’s a lovely one that I am making at the moment for my son – such a lovely simple pattern, I really like it!
http://aww.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=48993
My favorite pattern is Ojo De Dios from BadCatDesigns. I love this shawl. http://lullategemised.blogspot.com/2009/03/ojo-de-dios.html
This is not the most complicated thing I ever knitted, in fact, it was simple and fast – but I got lots of compliments on it.

Thanks for the give-away Kyoko!;o) Judy
my newest favorite is Aeolian shawl (knitty.com) I loved the nupps and the interesting stitch patterns the author used.

thanks!
My favorite so far? Geez, there are so many and for many different reasons. I will leave a link to the shawl I made for my sister’s wedding (the day was warm and she didn’t need it) but it was fun and came out really well. It was Lily of the Valley from Fiddlesticks:
http://www.blackberry-ridge.com/lilshl.htm
Or you could view it on my blog in icey blue, with more photos than might be strictly necessary:

I thought the nupps were fun, although lots of folks do not agree.
What a fun competition

These socks are my favourite knit:
http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Thumbelina/primavera-socks
It’s a very clear, straightforward pattern that produces a lovely affect and they have been so well loved by the recipient that I remember everything about them with a smile
I love this book and have it so don’t enter me! Its the one book I just like to look at even when not knitting anything from it.
The best pattern I knit was a fair isle sweater for DD. It was easy and it turned out beautifully. Here’s a link so you can see it.

this looks like a fab book. I must have a look for it, one of my fav patterns well its all the patterns are from the knitting victorian lace book. A fav book.
Hi Kyoko!
What a lovely book!!!
My favourite pattern is from the Last minute knitted gifts; the airy scarve.
http://kscitygirl.blogspot.com/2008/08/finished-airy-scarf-and-new-venture.html
It is a great introduction to knitting lace.

Oh, I want it! :] But I just realized something. All the items that I have finished were thought up in my own head! So here’s a pattern I’m in the process of making:

and my sock: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sunniefairy/basic-socks—toe-up
Hi! I’m a fairly new knitter but I’ve just knitted these amazing fingerless gloves from a pattern I got off etsy. They are called ‘Cascade’ and it’s the first time I did an eyelet pattern. Also, it’s the first time I adapted a pattern that used 2 circular needles to using my DPNs. If anyone wants to see pics of my gloves let me know!
http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=14254862
I love the pattern and so enjoyed knitting my first lace. It is a shawl by Elizabeth Lovick and I knitted it for my daughter. I was so amazed as it grew and how pretty it looked after blocking. I was hooked on lace! It can be seen on Ravelry at:

My favorite knit was Swan Lake Mystery Stole. I enjoyed making it and have thoroughly enjoyed using it. This was my first mystery project and I appreciated the fact that the clues were small enough for me to keep up.

I am knitting my first project!
A basic baby cardigan, and I am really enjoying it.

This looks like a great book in your giveaway!

probably one of the simplest patterns around, but I loved knitting it. The yarn was soft, the increases in the crown made a lovely shape and it fit well.
The book looks great, it’s going to go on my wishlist (if it isn’t already…)
