For years, my mom had this doily that she put on top of a little piano music box on top of the dresser in our hallway. I would play with them, even though I wasn't supposed to. I didn't know anything about the doily (or the music box, for that matter) but I thought it was cool, and even though it was multi-colored, I pretended it was a bridal veil for my Barbies. She did, however, tell me it was very old.
Flash forward to 2017 when I was teaching myself to crochet, and I asked about the Doily. Come to find out, my dad's mom had made it about 80 or so years before! However, my mom had given it away to my sister, who lives in Montana (I am in California). So, I contacted my sister and had her send pictures of the Doily to me, and I then proceeded to figure out the pattern from those images. This pattern is the result!
You can make this pattern in any yarn with any appropriately sized hook, but I do recommend Aunt Lydia's 10 size crochet cotton thread and a 1.75mm steel hook. The doily ends up about 6" in diameter, though gauge is not very important in this project.
